My retro kitchen!

Still on our quest for a home! That won't stop me from decorating! I have decided to retract my initial idea of a "vintage mickey" themed kitchen (mayhap that will be the living room theme!)

Instead, I have chosen to go retro! I want a classy retro look with vintage and "new retro" pieces that way we can actually use items as well.

The very popular "red classic diner" look is everywhere and would be very easy to decorate with, but anyone who knows me, knows I need a challenge or well, it is just not any fun for me!

With that in mind, I have opted to go "aqua blue" / white / and some VERY subtle light pink accents (and I mean subtle! ) All appliances shall be white, as there was not allot of color by way of appliances in the 50's

Thinking a checkered floor would be a classy cool

A White Kitchen Aid mixer

White apron sink or farmers sink

old tin lunchboxes

One of those crazy black cat clocks with the moving eyes! sweet!

( a few hidden Mickey's perhaps!)

Anyone familiar with the "50's Primetime Cafe" located at MGM theme park in Walt Disney World will find that I am stealing decorating ideas from them! =)

I would LOVE some feedback, ideas, tips, etc!

Thanks

Pin Curls and rollers oh my!

So last night I decided to put my hair in curlers again. I have done this before and those around me really liked the way they came out

Again I find myself praising woman of the past for their efforts in looking good every day! The results are amazing with pin curls, they can take a good amount of time to put in but they hold very well and are super comfortable to sleep in, unlike rollers. Hair tends to dry faster in pin curls then in rollers, and my hair holds moisture so the faster drying, the better.

I cheated last night and used rollers, mom took care of the back for me because it was late and I was lazy!

Today is Joe's company picnic out in Framingham, MA and I thought it would be fun to give myself some retro curls. Not to mention how very much Joe adores me in curls!

I can't imagine doing pin curls every 2-3 days like those amazing ladies from the forties! Life moved at a much slower pace back then, there was just time for that sort of thing. Now it's run here, run there, yadda yadda yadda!

In closing:

Perms suck, they are the very lazy way out and almost always end up looking like crap. If you want a truly vintage look, go for the real deal, Pin Curls! If you are in a rush, only use the pin curls around your face for that nice tight bouncy curl and use rollers in the back to help blend the curls. It is also fun and fast to put your hair in a nice high, tight ponytail at night, spritz with water and use rollers in your tail, wrap your head with a scarf tightly, followed by a sleep cap and VOILA' ... retro chic without the fuss!

Real woman wear fat!

I am down to my last nerve with stick thin sickly looking woman in Hollywood. The beauties that graced the silver screen had so much class and looked great.

So in conclusion, I feel that woman today are way to sensitive about their weight. Subtle curves are a GOOD thing ladies. There was a reason they were called pinup girls, not a one of them were skin and bones either. Our men like us with a little cushion! Find a healthy weight, then strut around like you are a pinup girl reborn...let the stick figures be jealous!

House Hunting Reality

How very bothersome it was to discover that my grandfather paid just over 12,000 for his huge house back in the day =(

So if a house comparable today sells for 275,000 .... that pretty much tells me we are being duped!

Lower a fever remedy!!!!

To reduce fever - Anisya Bolkonski has been kind enough to share this gem with us all!

I know of an exceptionally effective natural remedy for healing burns and lowering a fever: egg whites.

Egg whites are by far the best method to lower a high temperature within MINUTES! When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I had acquired a fever so high that I started to hallucinate. My mother was in a panic, she feared brain damage if something didn't lower the fever and FAST. My grandma told her to soak 2 cloths or handkerchiefs in egg whites and put on the soles of the feet (cover with socks). The egg whites instantaneously start to draw the temperature DOWN from the brain (where it is dangerous) to the feet (where it can do no damage). After that incident my mom used this method successfully every time I had high temp.

The egg whites are also a miracle cure for burns, even severe ones. Soak or coat affected area in egg white. While the egg white is still wet you will feel no pain from the burn. As soon as it dries up the pain comes back so reapplication is necessary. This method not only alleviates the pain it actually heals and prevents scarring from the burn.

I submitted this remedy to http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/fever.html and there has been a lot of positive feed back:

I would like to let more people know about the miraculous effectiveness of treating fevers and burns with egg whites so please post this on your site if you deem fit.

Ever wonder why?

Why is it that dogs run in their sleep?

I have never seen a cat run in their sleep? or any other animal for that matter...

Free time and the power of word

I decided today that I want to start writing again. I have a hard time coming up with a topic, but once I have one, I just sail right through.

I was thinking maybe a short story or mini-memoir for starters.

I must jot down these tasks I give myself or I will never get around to them. I apologize for the ramblings!
